Complete versatility and stylish looks for your KR! The Corbin wizards have specially designed a modular system that can easily convert from solo to dual riding that works on your stock BMW key lock. The Corbin system consists of the following components: Front Saddle with optional electric heat, Passenger Saddle with optional electric heat, Adjustable Passenger backrest and the exclusive Corbin Smuggler® Trunk. The perfect blend of form and function that's as easy to use as turning a key.
Front Saddle: Up front, the Corbin rider's seat offers enhanced ergonomics that provides proper weight distribution. This sculpted seating area fits the shape of your body and helps to eliminate hot spots and the centralized pressure you feel from the stock unit. The platform has been neutralized to curb sliding towards the tank under braking which also helps to reduce rider fatigue. All of this comfort is wrapped up in a package that fits perfectly to the chassis of the bike for a completely integrated look and clean visuals.
Rear Saddle: For your passengers we've also designed an ergonomically correct seat for touring class support. Wide sculpted seating provides a contact patch of roughly 100 square inches so your passenger can rack up the mileage with you in comfort. For additional support and an added feeling of security, Corbin's passenger seat also accepts our removable backrest. Corbin backrests are simple to install and lock in place with a single bolt. Naturally they're adjustable to provide a tailored fit to your copilot's posture.
Passenger Rest: The removable backrest is a Corbin invention from over a decade ago. We now offer a variety of backrest styles to suit your needs and taste. On this particular bike, we recommend the #02-S Ovalbac backrest for the best combination of form and function. Sculpted to fit the shape of the human body and providing a huge contact area for excellent support. Backrest angle can be easily adjusted without removing it from the seat so you spend your time enjoying the bike, not wrenching on it. Natually, Corbin backrests are covered in the same materials as your saddle for a totally coordinated look.
Smuggler Trunk: Another original Corbin idea! Simply remove the rear seat and replace it with the Smuggler trunk to instantly add over seven liters of convenient, locking storage. For the best looks, Smuggler comes prepainted to coordinate with your factory paint (please specify color) and provides a secure area for your traveling essentials. Naturally we've built the Smuggler to fit perfectly to the lines of the K1200 R to create an integrated, factory look. Slick details pick up the details of the bike and lend a bit more flair. Our patented molding process and exclusive materials create a part with very minimal variation from piece to piece so we can design a precision fit to the bodywork. Both the Smuggler trunk and passenger seat include brackets preinstalled so they're ready for immediate installation.
Smuggler's capacity of 7.5 liters helps to keep all your essential gear handy. That's more than enough room for keys, maps, spare gloves, cell phone, PDA, bottled water.... there's even enough room for your digital camera in there (even an SLR!) You'll find the Smuggler so convenient that you'll be getting stuff out of it every time you stop your bike. Naturally it comes fully finished and prepainted to coordinate with your stock paint color so the looks are spectacular right out of the box. Inside the trunk is lined to protect your cargo.
Front and rear saddles use our exclusive high-density Comfort Cell foam that allows us to build a supportive saddle without a bulky shape. Corbin's Wizards are masters at combining form and function into a saddle that makes you as happy to look at as it does to ride on. For those chilly morning rides, our seats have the option of electric heaters. Seats wire easily into your fusebox and maintain the proper temperature automatically through an integrated controller. Simply flip the conveniently located switch to low or high and enjoy the warmth.
We include genuine leather seating in your choice of styles for looks from outrageous to stealthy. Shown here, we've created a cover design and stitch pattern that coordinates with the K1200 R perfectly and adds to the visual appeal. Both saddles are pictured with black carbon-fiber leather seating and Asphalt vinyl sides along with our unique stitch pattern. Carbon-Fiber leather lends a nice sporty touch while the Asphalt sides coordinate well with the black frame of the bike. Also notice the backrest is covered in the same materials for visual coordination.
Need more options? How about a variety of finishing plate styles for the rear of your Ovalbac backrest! Our standard styles are ABS models in a leather look, Carbon-Fiber look (shown) or primer if you'd like to have it custom painted. For just a little extra we can provide one prepainted gloss black or a chromed steel model. Naturally we chose the Carbon-Fiber finishing plate on this one because it coordinates well with the sporty Carbon-Fiber leather seating used in the passenger and rider seats.
Need some locking storage, but have a passenger too often to use the Smuggler? Corbin's glovebox is an excellent solution for all your quick-access stuff. Simply replace the finishing plate on the Ovalbac model backrest and you've just added four liters of locking storage capacity. It's plenty for a couple bottles of water, cell phone, spare gloves, maps and other incidentals. Constructed of durable ABS plastic and available plain or prepainted black.
Pictures just don't do this whole system justice. When you see in person how well the trunk is integrated to the BMW bodywork, you'll be amazed. Notice how closely the Corbin designers were able to make the Smuggler fit to the complex shaping of the K-R tail section. The graceful, aerodynamic looks have been kept true for the best possible visual appeal. Smuggler is constructed of our durable Fibertech material for a fine finish and long term durability. The door opening is fully weather stripped to guard against foul weather and keep cargo dry. Locking door keeps things secure and simple to access. Our new stainless steel hinge mechanism allows the door to open very wide to keep it out of the way when stowing your gear.

A purpose built, hybrid material that provides a firm foundation to support the carefully designed ergonomics of the Corbin saddle. Provides a precision fit to every arc and contour of the machine and rides on rubber bumpers to protect your paint. We always design our basepans as flat as possible so bumps or odd shapes don't telegraph through the foam to your body. Click on the button at left to learn more...
Comfort Cell® Foam
The heart of the Corbin saddle! Our exclusive, purpose built foam material, called Comfort Cell, was created to provide a firm, resilient ride that doesn't break down. This means it will support you for long days on the road. Over time, Comfort Cell will break in to provide a personalized fit to your posture and even greater comfort!
A major part of the design criteria of the Corbin saddle is the Ergonomic shape. This means the saddle's foam shape is designed to emulate the curves of the human body. This provides more square inches of body contact and helps to eliminate hot spots. This shaping also neutralizes the seating platform to help curb sliding in the saddle which reduces fatigue. In a nutshell... more comfort for a longer ride! Just click the button at left for an animation that shows how it works.
Patented Manufacturing Technology
Always an innovator, Mike Corbin invented Integrated Molding technology which is now the process by which all Corbin saddles are made. This process allows extremely tight tolerances and creates a chemical bond between the foam and base material. To see what this is all about, just click the button for More Info
We use leather in all panels of the seat that contact your body. This provides a luxurious ride that breathes with your body. Leather will also break in along with the foam shape to support the personalized fit. Available in a wide range of textures and styles to suit your taste. Supported by internal hardware for a very clean look. Backrests adjust to rider's profile for a tailored fit and install or remove easily as desired. A very popular option! Click the button for additional info...
As an option we can include electric heat in this saddle! This option provides a true bit of luxury for when the temperature starts to drop. Simple to install with major components pre-built into the saddle. Just wire in the included pigtail and you're ready to roll. Click the button at left for complete info...
Heater elements should never be installed in motorcycle seats used by riders that cannot sense heat.
Modular seat system
This component is part of Corbin's patented modular seat system (US Patent #7,556,114). Engineered to work in a variety of configurations to provide maximum versatility on your motorcycle. A typical modular seat system consists of: Rider seat, Passenger seat, Smuggler trunk & Corbin backrest.
One of the first things you'll notice about your new Corbin saddle is how stocky it feels. Our high density foam and rigid Fibertech base material add some heft to the seat, but it's worth it in the long run for sure! Here's why:
Corbin's basepan material is extremely stiff and therefore supplies the necessary rigid foundation to support the carefully designed ergonomics of the saddle. A thinner or more flexible base (ie nylon) would allow the saddle to sag in the middle which changes the foam shape impacting comfort value. We always design our basepans as flat as possible since odd shapes or bumps can telegraph through the foam and create pressure points.
This rigid base also supplies the mechanics for built in hardware like our removable backrest system. Backrest support hardware is buried inside the Fibertech to assure it remains stable and supports the weight of rider or passenger. Remember, the Corbin backrest system is like a complete integrated sissy bar that adjusts! Pretty amazing when you think about it.
Specifically designed for Corbin, this hybrid material has almost no shrinkage as it cures. Fibertech combined with our patented manufacturing process provides a precision fit to all areas of the bike and offers minimal manufacturing tolerance. The entire basepan only contacts your bike through rubber bumpers to protect your paint.
Better weight distribution
"Ergonomic" is the applied science ofequipment design intended to reduce operator fatigue and discomfort. Also calledbiotechnology, human engineering or human factors engineering. What it means isthat the product was designed to work with the human body. This is a key factorin how a Corbin saddle functions.
Notice how our saddles are sculpted and shapedto fit the human body? That's what we're talking about. This gives more squareinches of body contact which disperses your weight over a greater area. Sinceit matches the curve of your body, it also eliminates hot spots and centralizedpressure on your spine.
In order to manufacture seats this way, itrequires special materials and manufacturing processes. Over the years we'veexperimented with many different materials, but in the end wound up developingour own. The process itself, calledIntegrated Molding, was also inventedby Mike Corbin and was awarded a United States patent.
Naturally we're always on the lookout for newmaterials and processes. What you find today is the product of nearly fourdecades of relentless product development. Because of this, Corbin Saddles arecommonly considered the finest motorcycle seat in the world.
Exclusive Materials and a Patented Process
One of the main reasons Corbin saddles have beenso popular over the years is because the technology under the saddle's cover isin constant development. New models and improved features require constantdiligence on the part of the factory to assure each product lives up to theoriginal design. Integrated molding was the missing link between designconcepts and actual production.
In a nutshell we've taken the components of thesaddle and combined (integrated) the molds into one unit. Brackets and backresthardware is placed in the mold where the basepan is created around it. The molditself dictates the shape of the base and placement of the hardware whilecreating a clean rounded edge in the exact same shape every time.
This same mold is then used to cast ourinfinite-ratio Comfort Cell foam into the ergonomic shape common to Corbinseats. This process takes place on a tight schedule while the Fibertech basematerial is still at a curing stage. This creates a chemical bond between baseand foam that helps keep the crafted shape intact under heavy use.
Integrated Molding has created a process soconsistant it gave our R&D team the freedom to design for a more precisionfit. Extremely tight tolerances allow the seat shape to fit every arc and curveof your motorcycle like never before. It also enabled us to introduce a host ofnew features like Chrome V-Rails, fold down backrest hardware, heater insertsand our new Ovalbac model backrests.
Genuine Leather Seating
For a luxurious ride
With few exceptions (seats for off-road bikes),we include genuine leather seating panels in all Corbin saddles. A naturalproduct, leather provides a luxurious ride by allowing your body to breathewhile in contact with the seat. Leather is also extremely durable so it willlast in the harsh environment your bike is subjected to.
Genuine leather will also adapt with the foamshape to support the personalized fit after break in. This is why we recommendusing vinyl instead of leather in the SIDE areas of your seat. Vinyl will"spring back" instead of stretching, so it will support the foamshape and stay looking new.
We have a wide range of specialty leathers &vinyls available for covering your Corbin saddle, but beware the Kid in a Candy Store syndrome. Most people that create wild seat coverdesigns end up unhappy with them over time and admit they went crazy justbecause they could. So even though we let you choose any materials you want foryour seat, doesn't mean you SHOULD... sometimes less is more.
Lastly, be sure to care for your leatherproperly with a quality conditioner like Corbin's Saddle Cream. This will helpit to resist the elements and stay water resistant and looking sharp longer.Over time you can expect your saddle to break in and develop its own uniquecharacter, just like your leather jacket or gloves.
Paint Color Matching
Color is one of the most emotional issues faced in therefinish & paint business. Everyone has an opinion about color. Unfortunatelyeveryone sees color slightly differently and this can be the cause of discussion. The biggest problem is thatof color variants. Cars and motorcycles are no longer produced in fixed colors, but come from the manufacturing plants in a range of shades of a particularcolor.
Manufacturers & OEMs
At the OEMplants, there are a multitude of reasons why variants may occur. These reasonsinclude the paint system being used, the line speed, line trials, lineproblems, plant differences and variations in film builds. No matter how hardOEM manufacturers try to duplicate paint results from unit to unit in any givencolor, there will always be paintvariations! No matter how much time and money OEM paint companies spend on makingsure their colors are consistent from batch to batch in both OEM paint and refinishformulas, there will always be paint variations.
Variations inthe production of paint can also contribute to variations in a particular colorcode. As research and technology allow, new chemistries and resins may beintroduced into a particular product line at any given time. This may allow fora slight color shift when a plant empties a container of existing material andorders more from the supplier.
Also during the manufacturing process, thepotential exists for slight differences in the final product. The manufacturingprocess requires a lot of equipment, settings, human control, and other factorsand any slight change in any one of those components may contribute to theslight deviation. The final paint product may be well within the specificationsfor that product but be slightly different from a previous batch.
PPG (Corbin'smain paint supplier) monitors color consistency directly at the OEM plantswhenever possible and also out in the "real world" of repair centers. This is done through their Parts program by receiving documentation fromdistributors, customers and internal sales people.
This constant feedback of color informationallows PPG to identify colors that consistently do not match the OEM standard. They then create avariation (redder, greener, lighter, darker, etc.) of the Prime formula that will provide a bettermatch in some cases than the prime formula.
When a paint technician is looking up a colorusing any PPG Color Information System they check to see if a Variant formulaexists. This can save a great deal of time and provide better consistency.Corbin uses the PPG TouchMix computer to provide the best possible match toyour OEM paint. However, given variances at the OEM level, we cannot guaranteea perfect match at all times.
Another Corbin Invention
Corbin backrests are designed to install and remove easily so you can use a single backrest transferred front to back as needed or get two for full time use. Just slide the backrest shaft into the hardware contained inside the saddle and lock it in place with a single safety screw.
Backrests adjust to rider profile easily without removing the rest from the seat. In some saddles we incorporate special hardware in the front position that allows the backrest to fold down to ease mounting the bike. This hardware also allows you to position the backrest fore and aft to suit your stature.
Of course, all backrests are made to coordinate with your Corbin saddle in your choice of materials. Ovalbac models also have finishing plate options for the rear to add a bit more flair. Need a little storage? Check out Corbin's new Glovebox that bolts directly up to your backrest in place of the finishing plate and adds four liters of storage!

Stitch Patterns Very few seats have more than one stitch pattern available (excepting Hollywood Solo models). So you can change the color of the stitching, but you cannot change the pattern. The specific webpage shows the correct stitch pattern while the configurator will show a generic stitch pattern that may not be correct for your seat.
Assembly stitch Color chosen for the decorative stitching does NOT effect the thread color for the assembly stitching. In those places we automatically use the most appropriate thread color for subdued looks.
IMPORTANT: This is strictly a visualization tool!
Please understand that every seat model is different with patterns and options varying from seat to seat. These digital models (configurators) represent the concept of how your seat will be made, but not exactly how it will appear when finished. Always refer to the images of the saddle specific to your motorcycle on the appropriate product page.
